When the last song ends at Sims Park and you walk up Main Street hungry, who is still cooking?
Downtown New Port Richey has plenty of places open late. On Nebraska Avenue, two pubs post 2 a.m. closing times for Thursday through Saturday. The kitchens close much earlier, mostly around 10 p.m. That gap is the reason both new concepts announced for Main Street this fall plan to stay open late.
A Friday Night, by Posted Closing Time
The table below uses each venue's own posted hours for a Friday. Hours change, so it's a good habit to check before heading out.
| Venue | Address | Doors close | Food |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fitzgerald's Irish Tavern | 5811 Nebraska Ave. | 2 a.m. | Kitchen until midnight |
| SteamWorks Pub | 5781 Nebraska Ave. | 2 a.m. | Pub menu; kitchen hours not posted |
| The Social NPR | 5650 Main St. | 1 a.m. | Kitchen closes 10 p.m. |
| Rosie's Tavern | 5728 Main St. | Midnight | Kitchen hours not posted |
| Cotee River Brewing | 5760 Main St. | 11 p.m. | No food; outside food welcome |
| Emerald Coast Brewing | 5731 Main St. | 11 p.m. | Rotating food trucks |
| Dented Keg Ale Works | 5500 Main St., Suite 104 | 11 p.m. | In-house kitchen menu |
| Sip on Grand | 6231 Grand Blvd. | 11 p.m. | Kitchen hours not posted |
On a Friday, the doors in this table close at four different times. The two kitchens with posted hours close at 10 p.m. and midnight. Only SteamWorks posts a 2 a.m. close and has food on its menu, but its site doesn't say how late the kitchen runs.
10 p.m. Is When the Kitchens Start Closing
The Social NPR says it plainly on its hours page: the kitchen closes at 10 p.m. every night. On Fridays and Saturdays the bar stays open until 1 a.m., so after 10 the menu is gone but the room is still open for three more hours.
Fitzgerald's Irish Tavern runs the same pattern from Sunday through Thursday, with the kitchen closing at 10 p.m. The menu includes fish and chips made with Icelandic haddock, shepherd's pie, and bangers and mash, plus burgers, wings and loaded nachos. From Sunday through Wednesday the bar stays open until midnight, and on Thursday it stays open until 2 a.m.
The breweries along Main Street solve the food question in other ways. Cotee River Brewing doesn't serve food and lets guests bring in food from other places. That works well until the places that sell food have closed. Emerald Coast Brewing brings in rotating food trucks and notes that truck hours can change, so whether a truck is still serving late depends on the night. Dented Keg Ale Works has its own kitchen menu, and the taproom closes at 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
Midnight Belongs to Nebraska Avenue
By midnight on a weekend, the open doors have moved one block over. Rosie's Tavern at 5728 Main St. posts a midnight close on Fridays and Saturdays, and it advertises live music most nights and bands on weekends. Fitzgerald's kitchen also closes at midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, and that is the latest posted kitchen time downtown.
After that, the late hours belong to Nebraska Avenue. Fitzgerald's and SteamWorks Pub both post 2 a.m. closing times for Thursday through Saturday and midnight for Sunday through Wednesday. SteamWorks has a full pub menu with wings and burgers. Its site lists the pub's hours but not separate kitchen hours, so it's worth asking at the bar how late the fryer is running.
Between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m., downtown has more open bar stools than open kitchens, and that's the window the newest Main Street plans are built around.
The Two Main Street Doors Built for After 10
Main Street Food, 5743 Main St. Owner Jason Bryant is a St. Petersburg native who previously had ownership roles at the Manhattan Casino in St. Petersburg and The Catalyst on the Deuces. He told Business Debut that after moving to New Port Richey with his family, he went looking for something to eat downtown later in the evening and found few options.
"That was really the inspiration, just wanting to fill that gap and do something with my touch on it."
The plan is "straight street food," in Bryant's words: tacos in a variety of flavors, wings, hot dogs, sausages, popcorn and boiled peanuts. It will mostly be grab-and-go, with some seats for dining in. The address matters too. Hoodline reported that the corner unit is in the Chasco Inn, built in 1926 as the Havens-Swafford Building and described by the city as New Port Richey's oldest commercial brick anchor. The space was most recently Gone Juicing Cafe.
The opening date is still a projection. Business Debut reported a late-October target that depended on permits and finishing the build-out. The launch is planned in phases, starting with Thursday-through-Saturday evenings and working toward 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Thursday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday. WhatNow reported a first schedule of 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. Thursday through Saturday. Both versions point to the same window, Thursday through Saturday until 2 a.m. That's when Nebraska Avenue's pubs are open and most kitchens are closed. The brand's Facebook page is the place to watch for the first night.
Morgan's on Main, 5811 Main St. Owner Morgan Brown has spent about 16 years in the restaurant industry, 14 of them as a bartender. She has partnered with local restaurateur Keith Krueger on a 120-seat bar and restaurant built around a large wraparound bar. Business Debut reported plans to open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. The menu leans toward elevated bar food: smashburgers, ahi tuna, a monthly egg roll that changes based on guest suggestions, mix-and-match hot and cold dips, flatbreads, and mini churros. A separate menu of mocktails is planned, with flavors like passion fruit and blood orange.
The timing of food at Morgan's is different from Main Street Food. According to the report, families can dine while the kitchen is open, and after 11 p.m. the focus moves to a late-night bar. The team is aiming to open before Thanksgiving, pending city permits and inspections, and the city's downtown dining directory still lists it as "Coming Soon."
If both open as planned, Main Street gets a later kitchen on one corner and a later bar room a short walk away. Until then, a meal after midnight downtown means getting to Fitzgerald's before it closes the kitchen or asking at SteamWorks.
November Evenings That End Downtown
Several of November's evening events end right around the time kitchens start closing. Here they are in order, with the posted times:
- Tides of Time: History After Dark, Thursday, Nov. 5, 7 to 9 p.m. This New Port Richey Main Street event starts at Sims Park and ends at Cavalaire Square, and tickets are listed at $15. It ends at 9 p.m., an hour before The Social's kitchen closes. Event details
- Veterans Day Parade, Wednesday, Nov. 11, 5 p.m. The parade starts at Orange Lake and Circle Boulevard. It's early enough that every kitchen downtown is still open afterward. City listing
- Riverside Concert: NightBumpers, Friday, Nov. 13, 6 p.m. This New Port Richey Public Library concert is at Sims Park, at Grand Boulevard and Bank Street. Event details
- Concert in the Park: Homegrown, Saturday, Nov. 21, 7 to 9 p.m. This free show is at Sims Park, 6341 Bank St. City listing
- Fourth Friday Bazaar, Friday, Nov. 27, 6 to 10 p.m. This free outdoor market is at Railroad Square, on Nebraska Avenue between Adams Street and Grand Boulevard. That's the same avenue as the two 2 a.m. pubs, and it closes at 10 p.m., when many kitchens do. City listing
For a daytime stop that month, Wright's Natural Market at 5800 Main St. hosts its free Wright's Outdoor Market on Sunday, Nov. 8, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Fourth Friday Bazaar falls the day after Thanksgiving. If Morgan's on Main meets its before-Thanksgiving target, the bazaar will be one of its first weekends on Main Street.
